Key question

On papers that came with the 48 Kaiser I recently acquired, there is a an Owners Service Policy that the dealer filled out and key numbers were written in as:  Ign 345 trunk 743.  I am interested in the 743 key - does anyone have a Kaiser key making machine or guide to which 743 would mean something?  Thanks.

If you remove the trunk cylinder, a good locksmith can make you a key that fits.

Good suggestion - may go that route - luckily the trunk was unlocked when I got the car.

Unless someone changed the ignition switch, it should be keyed the same as the door locks. The trunk and glove box lock (if equipped) were usually the same. At least that's how my 48K was set up.

When I needed a trunk key for my '48 Frazer I just took the glove box door to the locksmith. They made a key for it and it fit the trunk. I believe the Kaiser special may not have a locking glove box. As joe frazer points out, it's easy to take the trunk handle off (maybe even easier than taking the glove box lid off!) and take it to a locksmith. Good luck.

Thanks for info - I have the ignition/door key which is good - the ignition switch has been replaced with the upgrades.  The car is a Special so no lock on glove box.

According to parts and accessories bulletin No.45 (8/22/47) KF-743 "bitted" number is 13032.

Don't know if that info is helpful for today's locksmith.

I can post the complete bulletin if anyone needs additional info.

Took your info to locksmith - he was able to confirm that 743 was a good number but his key cuts showed as 24143 as he had no "zero cut" on his machine but 13032 and 24143 do match up.  Interesting.  Anyway he cut a key that works!  Thanks to all for directing me along.
