Need/want fabric for your '47 or '48?
« on: July 26, 2017, 10:58:43 AM »

In the course of sourcing materials I will need to restore my '48 Kaiser
Special I've come to the conclusion I will have to have fabric specially
made if I really want to get it exact, probably by SMS in Oregon.
Before placing an order I want to be sure I have the colors, material,
design, spacing, etc. all correct, AND I want to find out if anyone else
would want to order some at the same time.  Maybe if we had enough
people they might even reduce the price of $125 I was quoted for a
special run to something lower than $100, which seems to be what they
charge for most things they have in stock.  From what I have been able
to ascertain so far it seems the same fabric was used in '47 and in '48
on both trim code 121 and 122 (please tell me if you know otherwise).
This is a woolen broadcloth striped pattern.  There are 4 stripes that
repeat every 3/4".  The first is a narrow 1/8" dark stripe, the second
stripe 1/4" wide, is a solid color, no doubt a pink (what we see now on
faded material), or possibly maroon or burgundy when it came out of
Willow Run, the 3d stripe is identical to the first, the 4th and last
stripe is made up of much smaller diagonal stripes (lighter color), also
1/4" wide. Then the whole thing repeats again.

If you have or can take a picture of this material in a spot where it
has not changed color (under the seat etc.) and send it to me it would
be most helpful.  Also, if you would be interested in joining in and
buying some of this material for yourself  let me know.

P.S.  You can see a picture of the very faded fabric in an earlier post of mine under the title "what color this fabric".  I am trying to locate a much better picture that would better show what the original colors were before I place an order.  Even better yet would be a small swatch of original fabric in pristine condition.
