1952 Willys Aero Eagle for Sale in MN
« on: May 17, 2017, 07:03:37 PM »
There is a new listing for a 1953 Willys Aero Eagle on Craig's List for $16,000.00.  As you might expect, it looks clean and in great condition.  The aftermarket front bumper and continental kit would be the first things to go if it was my car.  I like the stock look much better.  Here is the link:

I agree with you on the bumper and rear tire. Let the body lines do the talking for the car.

That sure is a pretty one.  The Eagle Custom of 1954 did have a continental kit as factory equipment.

Sweet car but it's listed as a '53, which it is. Correct period aftermarket accessories: probably a Hollywood Accessories continental kit and the rare front bumper overriders (can't remember the company, starts with an "A" I think. Jim Lape mentioned them in another thread in this forum). Factory optional Deluxe ivory steering wheel and clock (wish there was a good pic of the clock - very rare). Interior looks perfect and original. Looks like tinted glass all the way around. Notice the front floor mat with the carpet inserts - standard on the Eagle only, not available on other models. Correct jack, base and handle and trunk mat is original. Fresh air ducts are from a clothes dryer and it's odd that someone put 1955 Willys wheel covers on the car. Those are the only points off for me. Would like it in my garage. This car is nearly identical to Barnum's early '54 Eagle (forgive the old snapshot).

The front bumper accessory is known as a Van Auken kit. I have an NOS set that fits a Darrin. While they are interesting, I don't think I'm going to install it any time soon...

Here's a pic of one and the dash bezel.

One of these turned up on ebay last winter listed by a guy that specializes in servicing car clocks. He billed it as NOS, freshly serviced & lubed but without the black bezel. I think it started out at around $100 and each time the auction expired he'd re list at a lower price. I traded a couple messages with him, nice guy and we were both surprised it wasn't selling. I think it was in the mid 70's last listing & I never saw it again.

They really are rare, I think because they were expensive. I saw an options price list somewhere in the past and I think the clock was $13 and change compared to 2 tone paint which was around $16. I've dug through my Aero literature several times looking for it with no luck, so I must have seen that elsewhere and could really kick my a** for not at least copying it.

As for the car, fantastic survivor. I've seen many cars with less miles not nearly as nice.

I've been told the clock also fits Ramblers, possibly of the late 1950's. Can anyone confirm or deny?

The 1954 Willys data book lists all of the accessories but does not have prices. There are hundreds of publications done by Kaiser Willys in the fifties but most pertain to Jeep and F150-170 Vehicles.

I saw this car at the Back To The 50s Weekend today. The pictures don't do it justice. It's much better when you see it up close.

This 1953 Willys Aero Eagle has been reposted on Craigslist.  The original listing had expired or was removed.  I believe the pictures have changed in this new posting.  No change in the price.  Here is the link: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/cto/6212875369.html

Van Auken has to go, could live with the Continental Kit but I agree would probably go.  Being a market science guy, I wonder about pricing?  I would say $15,000 buys a nice 50's 2 door hardtop from the likes of Cadillac, Imperial, Buick, in other words, a lot more car. Even a Dragon.

I wouldn't mind seeing an ebay auction with a lot of content to see what the marketplace values this at.  Or even a regional Mecum.  I suspect it will sell for under $10,000.
No old cars owned.
