Original color for brake backing plates?
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:16:41 PM »
I am just repainting my brake backing plates on my Darrin. When I removed the grime they were red in color, and underneath that was orange ??? Is this just the result of an earlier restoration to try and dress them up, or were they colored originally? I would have expected gross black. Are the judging standards silent on this? Thanks for any help.

Good morning - Mine were black when the car was taken apart for restoration and are gloss black again. I can't imagine them being any color other than black, but...

I would suspect that the chassis was assembled, including the rear axle, springs, brake backing plates, front suspension, cross members, etc. and painted all together with "chassis black", ie, semigloss black.
