brake bleed/master access

Brakes are spongy on 53 J.  So I looked in the service manual, rolled back the carpet, removed access plates.  Now what?  Can't get the filler cap off with a 1/2" breaker bar on a 3/4 socket.  No room to work.  Anyone with similar experience?

Welcome to owning a Henry J!  I had this happen and I had to drive the cap off with a punch and replace it.  The metal ones are aluminum and the electrolysis causes them to "weld" to the cast iron master cylinder.  If the cap hasn't been off in awhile, this is what happens.  I replaced mine with a plastic cap and put a thin layer of grease around the threads of the cap.  Now when I check my brake fluid, I just jack up the driver side, remove the front wheel and reach down in and remove the cap by hand.  Then fill with a syringe. Not a pleasant task but I ended up using a punch to "chisel" it off.
