Script clips

OK, this is probably a silly question, but I'm going to ask anyway.  I need to put the scripts back on my 52 HJ.  It came with all the scripts, but none were actually attached and didn't have any clips with them.  So, what do I use?  And how do I attach them?

Do you by chance know what the correct size would be?

Also, round or flat?

It depends upon the script your trying to reattach. The fender script uses small 3/16" tubular clip as does the trunk script...at least on my 54 HJ. The hood and glove box script is held in place with flat tinnerman style clips. All three are different sizes...they have different part numbers. I've attached pictures of both styles.

Every J I ever worked on (and there were many) is consistent with what joefrazer described. You can usually find the clips at a body shop / paint shop.

Well, I've got the Henry J trunk script I need to reattach, as well as the Corsair deLuxe fender scripts, so I guess I'll need the 3/16" tubular clips for both of those?   Pretty sure the glove box and hood scripts are both on (sorry, it's been a while, trying to sort this out while I'm not anywhere near the car itself...) but I'm not certain.  Does one of you happen to know what size the flat clips would be (#4, #6, #8, etc.) for each/either of those, in the case I need to reattach those as well?  Not that it matters all that much, I can just buy some of a few different sizes and try it til I find it, but if someone knows offhand that'd obviously preferable

For the sake of clarification, 3/16" is the stud size on the script itself, correct?

Also, what's the correct way to actually put them in?  Do you insert the barrel clip from the outside of the trunk lid into the hole, and then put the script in, or...?

Sorry for my utter lack of knowledge, never had to do this sort of thing before and I'd prefer not to be chasing my tail when there's a wealth of knowledge right here

Tinnerman clips are sold on eBay and can be purchased in packages of assorted sizes for a reasonable price.  I recently bought some.  Larger hardware stores and auto body supply stores also sell them.
