51-55 4 Door Sill Plates - Brand New SAVE $$$
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:33:45 PM »
Thinking about buying a set of sill plates?  I have one set (only) of sill plates for the 51-55 Kaiser 4 doors for sale.  These are exactly the same ones currently sold by another club vendor for $329 plus 15% shipping and handling.  I'll sell the set for $275 plus $25 shipping & insurance (less than 10%).  I just put a set on my 54 and they are beautiful.  Hand made; I waited 9.5 months for these to arrive this week.  Do the math and save some serious $$.  Mike Fleming mbfleming@aol.com

Jim, sorry, I don't have any 2 door sill plates, you have to go to Rudy Phillps for them.  The sill plates were made of aluminum so I'd start with a good brand of aluminum cleaner and a lot of elbow grease.  Being aluminum, they were of course prone to denting.  I'm not much of a body man but I'd guess some auto body dent repair tools like dolly and hammer would be a good place to start.  Other than just a general cleaning, I've never done anything to mine.  I couldn't wait to get this new set in my car.  They are beautiful!

If your sill plates are just dirty and not corroded or broken I have always used very fine steel wool which seems to work great.  Use it dry but no coarser than 000 grit and start on one end and work across the sill plate.  For the final finish be sure and move horizontally across the plate so all of the rub marks are going in one direction.  I have awakened several sill plates this way.  A set of the new sill plates for a two door or coupe are less expensive than for a four door.  Rudy calls them scuff plates in his 2007 price book and they are $329.00 a pair for a two door. That will buy a lot of steel wool!
