Hawaii
« on: April 10, 2018, 09:15:39 AM »
Monday night I watched an episode of Hawaii Five O made in 1968. The bad guy was played by Ricardo Montalban. He had a big beautiful house on the ocean with impressive views. The credits at the end of the show said filmed at the Henry J. Kaiser estate.

That would have been Portlock, his estate. I visited the area several years ago and there were some very impressive homes to see.

Don't forget the Hilton Hawaiian Holiday Resort on Waikiki beach was built by HJK in 1956 and sold  to Hilton in 1963.   I will be staying there next week and will report on it.   He purchased a small plot of land and extended it out 40 acres to build it.

I will also visit his home.

There used to be a Darrin owner in Hawaii and some of our members have seen the car there.  I found an old postcard of a yellow Darrin with top down and a couple and child in the car in front of an apartment house.  I wonder if that is the same Darrin that is supposed to still be in Honolulu?

There were two Darrins in Honolulu when I visited several years ago. A blue one that I believe is now stateside and the remains of a white car that was left to the elements. Every piece of exposed steel on the white car had rotted so badly that the car had settled into the ground. It was on the north end of Oahu near the Dole plantation.

Here's a picture of the blue car.

I will be in Oahu next week and would like to see the Darrin near the Dole Pineapple plant.   Do you have an address or some better directions???

I will also be in Kauai for five days.

A friend who lived on the island took me to where the car was planted. Unfortunately, I don't recall where that was - aside from being near the plantation.
