What is the proper color of a 1947 Kaiser Special 100 flat head 6 engine

The engine on the 1947-48 KF cars was originally gray.  I'm not sure what the shade of gray was as I've seen several but this one was restored recently and I think I recall that it was done with the orginal color paint.

Anyone else that has any info on the original shade of gray, please chime in.

Lookint at this picture again I'm not sure it's a 47 100 special. My water hoses or should say heater hose go into the fire wall on the pssagenger side of engine compartment not the driverside. but everything else is the same?

Any Kaiser or Frazer thru 1950 with the one barrel carb engine should be grey. The shade shown in the picture looks good to me. I've used Krylon's battleship grey with success and it's shade is real close to that pictured.

The car pictured is a 1948 Frazer Manhattan but it would be the same as 1947 Kaiser, K100.

I think a good thing to go into the new judging standards, if possible, would be something like proper engine color.  As I said, I don't know if it's possible, but Packard enthusiasts can get their green and so can Duesenburg and hosts of others.  I've heard of a lot of people using John Deer green for later Kaisers, and it just seems like for judging purposes we ought to be able to get closer than that.  My 2 cents.

Krylon Universal Gray is as close to the original color as you can find.

But could the club take an engine whose paint is original and in good condition and have it computer analyzed and then use that formula as the basis?

A computer analysis of the paint make-up would require someone to get a piece of the material about the size of a standard paint chart chip with NO imperfections, dirt, oil stain, etc.   A further limitation would be who is doing the analysis and what mix formulas the computer has on hand.

It was my hope that written judging standards would include "acceptibles" and, where possible, "originals" for various detail items such as paint.   I will keep my mouth shut on what the packages are turning into because nothing is SUPPOSED to have been decided on formats, etc.
