Darrin Jr.

It has been awhile since I have said anything about my Darrin Jr.   I have painted many of the parts needed to be chrome with Chrome paint.   You can see the result with the painted tail lights.  We put down Chrome Paint then masked off the area for the Tail light lens and painted over the chrome paint with a candy apple color to approximate the lens.  Did a similar thing with the grille, black, mask, chrome paint then clear.   

Once the clear hardens and the bumpers are painted with the chrome paint, I will start assembling the car.  Pictures will follow.   Many of the previous pictures are other places, like the upholdery for the seat etc.

I plan on bringing this car to the Nationals this year.

It's been another little while since I posted on the Darrin Jr., however, I'm getting close to the finish line.  I just have to put the plastic windshield in, the Darrin emblems on the wire hub caps and the Kaiser Darrin Jr. logo across the trunk to finish it.

It will go into my Traveler, I hope, as I will take it to car shows.  I won't be able to take it with me with the Darrin, when it's done unless I trailer it.  I will only trailer the car for long distant shows, the rest will be driven.

The bumpers and guards I had made by "The Real Woodman":  http://therealwoodman.com/ (check him out, he is amazing).   They are wood painted with Chrome paint and clear coated.  The windshield frame I made myself.  I purchased the mirrors from a person into peddle cars.   I added the Decal that was on the original car. I had that made up from a pencil sketch I made from the original car, in the original place.

No one is going to "play" with it.  It is the same as the original, that I also have, it's a coaster car, no peddles.

I'm very happy how it came out, it looks just as my full size Darrin will look!!!

Thanks, the two cars will make a great display together.  I have a 1935 Chrysler pedal car all restored.  It weighs 50 pounds and is very fragile.  I'll bet that yours will be at least that heavy and will need to be moved very carefully,

I was teasing you, I wouldn't either. I have the good fortune to have 3 grandsons a year apart, a paved circle drive and a collection of pedal toys they rode the living bejesus out of when they were little. The words my wife & I said the most was "No crashing!" First thing that came to mind when I saw that gorgeous paint job.

I knew that, I was just teasing back (that sometimes doesn't come across with only the written word) and I have 6 teenage grandsons and they are all boys (meaning energetic!!).    They are eyeing the full size Darrin!!  The picture is off three of them in front of SEMA Headquarters 5 years ago for an event.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they're itching to take it out. I've got 6 too, and a couple girls but these 3 have always been nearby and have helped on the Aero quite often. Here's a shot right after we installed the engine, big day for us.
We all drove it last year sans interior & front end Sheetmetal and they're anxious to drive it more but I want it 100% done first, should be soon. I was their age when it was my daily driver.

I attended my first show with the Darrin Jr.   People really enjoyed it.   It fits well in the Traveler, I built a rack to hold the front end over the seat so the car doesn't move around while driving.  If you need pictures of that, I will include them in a later response.

Can't wait till the full size one is ready for showing!!
