Back up Light
« on: January 17, 2020, 06:05:23 PM »
Does anyone have any information on Kaiser Frazer dealer installed backup lights?  Darrin #420 has a backup light installed on the rear bumper just above the fake bumper bolt.  Would like to find out if it is a dealer installed option or a driveway install by an early owner.

KF used a backup light similar to the pictured unit however I’m not aware of backup lights being offered as a factory accessory on the Darrin. They were an accessory on the full size cars.

I never noticed on a Darrin’s having Reverse Lights. Normal they come in Two’s to , One on Each side.

I believe the early cars accessory back up light was just one light assembly.  The picture shown looks like one of those lights.  The later cars (1951) were designed to be installed into the rear fender just below the tail light, 1952 and up the accessory back  up lights were twin pods to mount on the rear bumper as the tail light assembly when down to the rear bumper.

Thanks for all the inputs.  Still thinking about leaving it installed...looks like there is at least one other Darrin with a set of back up lights.

I would wait & see How many have One. Does It Work ?
See in The 50’s some Add On’s was Done at The Dealer. You did not know if it’s a Good Idea , & Manufacturer’s didn’t want to add something that was a not a Hit Plus extra Charge.

This case this is a Safety Add On. See at Night & Folks can See Your backing Up. I have One Dragon that Has it My Other Does not. Our Original Twin Dragon did Not.
If I remove You have 2 Holes in The Back Bumper.  So would have to Replace.

Darrin You have Seat Belts. Other KF Produces did Not. It’s a Safety Add on so Does not Hurt for Judging Original .
