Matchbook covers

There have not been many interesting items on eBay to collect relating to Kaiser and Frazer recently.  It is the usual magazine ads or stock certificates that we see daily and they are often the common variety and once we have them in our collection of Kaiser-Frazer memorabilia it is fun to find something different.  Match book covers with the dealers advertising were sold by K-F to the dealers and distributors as well as many match companies and they do keep turning up on eBay and there are some that are very popular and many that seem to be different.  Match book collectors like to collect just the outside covers with the advertising on them rather than the book of matches being included because the matches are a fire hazard, are against the law to mail and because the covers can lay flat and when displayed with plastic pages and it make a nice display and the pages can be kept in a notebook.  The most common size is the twenty match size but there are also thirty strike covers that were popular as well.  They typically sell for from between three and ten dollars and the most expensive K-F cover that I ever saw was one that was the thirty strike size and it still had all of its matches attached and the matches spelled out "Americas Most copied cars" and each match was a part of a scene with a black and white colored 1947 Frazer Manhattan.  It was made by K-F to give to visitors at Willow Cottage when new owners came to pick up their pre-ordered car.  It brought $100.00 at a eBay auction many years ago and I have only ever seen one other and it did not have all of its matches in place.  I have managed to find over 180 different K-F covers and a smattering of Willys which seem harder to find.  It has been fun finding them and I am sure that there are many more out there waiting to be discovered.
