1951 Kaiser Special for sale

It appears to be in rough shape - but possibly salvageable?

There’s a clear image of the body tag- would be great to know more info!

Here's info off the car tags

It is a model K5114 (1951 Kaiser Special 2-door sedan).

Original color was Mariner Gray (375) with Explorer Gray Richmond Cloth upholstery

The car has factory-installed overdrive and was built originally for sale in the 48 United States rather than outside the USA

The Accessory Group (K-F's name for Preferred Equipment Group) consisted of directional signals and oil filter.  NOTE:  The filter on the car is a type 1/2,  The replacement canister filter has been out of production for nearly 50 years and I would recommend replacement with the easier to work with replacement element filter unit.

The body is the 5,932nd 2-door special body built by K-F.  The car itself came off the production line at Willow Run MI on the second working day of November 1950 (within 2 working days into the month).

Thanks for providing the info! Curious about that oil filter - I haven’t seen one like that - this car would have a been an excellent survivor of not for the large water damaged area on the front - what a shame.

The oil filter on this car is the Fram PB 1/2 throwaway style unit. Common at the time, they are hard to find today so most owners have switched to the canister style.

Kaiser-Frazer issued a memo to dealers and distributors when the 1951 Kaiser was introduced.  It suggested that each Kaiser customer with a type 1/2 filter (factory installed) sell the buyer the replacement element type oil filter (was was factory installed on prior model year Kaiser and Frazer cars).  Replacement filter cartridges were significantly less than the complete type 1/2 canisters as well as much easier than the canisters.  After 6 oil changes the cost savings were around the entire price of installing the replacement element type and the savings would continue the longer the owner kept the car.

The Fall 2020 issue of KFOCI QUARTERLY will have an article on oil for K-F and Willys/Jeep vehicles that includes oil change instructions for the type 1/2 to show just how tricky the replacement of the type 1/2 is (risk to damaging oil lines and line fittings).   Being a member of the Forum only is not being a member of the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club International.

That nice interior indicates that it is probably the correct mileage and the paint looks original.  It no doubt needs mechanical work but with a new hood and fender it could end up being a nice car.  That interior with good steering wheel and radio does not need much more than a good cleaning according to the images.  I hope it gets restored!  Original cars are few and far between.

That hood and fender just shout "Minnesota rust!"    There are replacements available so I think the car is savable.
It's less than an  hour from me but I don't need any more projects that's for sure.

That car looks like it sat in a garage with a leaky roof that continued to dump water on it for many years.  It looks like a very nice car otherwise.

Wonder what it went for? Hope the new owner can source a hood and fender. Gordie - I agree with you regarding that interior. The first thing I noticed was the horn button - it’s the nicest ive ever seen! And the steering wheel isn’t cracked to bits.

1951 Kaiser Specials had the painted rubber steering wheel.  It was the Deluxe Tenite plastic that cracked and flaked off the armature (the center metal circle core).
