The old girl acquitted herself well today!
« on: September 04, 2020, 11:28:02 PM »
Took our 51 Deluxe for her first somewhat long outing today and she ran like a champ!

So far, given this car sat for so long, we haven't ventured far, until I was satisfied some of the mechanical needs were sorted out.  But today we took a trip about 40 or so miles away from home, and back again...and not a hitch.  :)

Wife and I met up with my son, daughter-in-law and three grandkids at a very cool place called The Forevertron.  Very cool place.  Dr. Evermore scrapped closed industrial sites, and spent his spare time crafting the bits and pieces of those scrapping sessions into some amazing sculptures.  Here's a good website with lots of pics:

Though pics can hardly do it justice compared to wandering through....there are amazing sculptures hiding all about the place.

After that we went up to Baraboo for a nice picnic dinner on the courthouse lawn.  Weather was beautiful...warm but a nice breeze.

At any rate, the wifey took a short video on her phone on our way up, link posted below.  A warning though...you get to see my ugly mug in the video...the horror....THE HORROR!!!  :D

All in all a very nice day, and I feel much more confident in driving Betsy for longer distances now.  I'm hoping we can make it to the meet coming up in MI in...2022 is it?

Back now to our regularly scheduled programming...

:)

I guess I was lucky as in the 1970's I bought a coup;e of 1951 Kaisers straight out of our Bulletin and flew to Iowa and drove them both straight back to Los Angeles with no problems and made it home in three days.  I wouldn't try it today though!

Those 51s were just getting their wheels under them though...Betsy is now a stately matron...lol!

My guess is you could do the same today, if you picked cars that were 20 to 25 years old...assuming anyone can think of a mid to late 90s car they wanted to collect...I'm drawing a blank on that.  :)
