OIL BATH CARBURETOR AIR CLEANER
« on: March 07, 2022, 10:49:43 PM »
When I bought the 51 Kaiser Deluxe the oil bath carburetor air cleaner was stored in the trunk. I wiped the it out as recommended with kerosene, ready to load it up with some fresh SAE 50 and reinstall in the engine bay. I am however missing the wing nut, lock washer and plain washer, and the bigger sealing washer needed to fix the assembly (per page 87 of the shop manual) onto the mounting bracket. Does anyone know the size of the wing nut and three washers, or what I should ask for at the hardware store? Thank you

The sealing washer is just a cork ring that can but cut from stock to fit. Attached is a picture of the wing nut. It measures about 1 1/8

Thank you both! Great information. I need to get the parts manual. Is that what it is called? When I search for 51 Kaiser parts manual online it pretty much just offers the shop manual, which I do have, but doesn't look like this page 35 you provided. I think I need that manual, but not sure what it is called or where to look. Thanks again!

Wow! This is really great, thank you Jim. I saw the same manual a few minutes ago showing cd available for purchase from Ben Walker in Nacogdoches TX with an email address. But when I emailed I got an error message, so he must have changed his email. If anyone knows how I might purchase this 1951 Kaiser Combined Chassis and Body Parts List manual I would like to do so. I also want the 52/53 parts list.

Sorry to say Ben passed away many years ago.  I don't think he is still checking his email.  I will look to see if I have extras of those manuals.

When I needed the wing nut for the bottom of my '51 Kaiser air cleaner, I just put a nut on it to see what thread size it was then went to my local Ace Hardware and bought a wing nut with that thread type. Painted the air cleaner up and it looks like new.  And a pic of the air cleaner / wing nut from the bottom.

That's perfect, that's what I'll do. For the paint, is a regular rustoleum black okay? Does it have to be the high-heat type of paint?

Regular black paint will do. It does not need to be high heat.
