One of the last KF Celebrity Promoters has passed
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:53:47 PM »
I just heard on my way home from work today that Art Linkletter passed away today at 97.  I remember watching him on TV when I was a young'un and always liked him.  I sent him a letter back 2002 and he sent me a personal reply -

RIP - Art!  Sounds like he learned that Fids say the darndest things!

Art Linkletter! He used to have an afternoon variety show that I watched when I was little (Kids Say the D*rnest Things was only a 4 minute segment). That and "Queen for a Day" is what we had instead of Judge XX or the Oprah network is what we had after school - and American Bandstand. Art is one of those celebrities that if I had been asked, I would have said I thought he died 15 years ago.

Rise Stevens, at about the same age Art was when he died is the last living member of the group that appeared in the Kaiser-Frazer "day in the life of" series.  She is also the only one of the group to appear in two completly separate ads...there was a two-page color and a single page color that ran featuring a typical day in her active life.

It should be noted that everyone who was profiled in an ad got a Henry J...Rise even got a set of luggage from K-F trimmed in the alligator vinyl material.  Also, I have seen home movie footage that showed Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz with the kids prior to Kindergarten at home, with a 1953 Kaiser Manhattan (green and ivory) in the driveway!

I'm really sorry to hear of his passing.
When I was a young boy, I would go over to his house and swim with his kids.  They lived 3 doors down, in Beverly Hills.  He was a great neighbor and very friendly to all the kids in the neighborhood.
They moved to the Sunset Bl area when I was about 10.  I was sad when they moved away.
The old property is now an apartment bldg. (of course).
