I thought I would share some info about the new Black Mats

Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club, Int.     September 2010                                                         Revision 2
1951 - 1954 Kaiser Front Floor Mat Kit: Instructions
1.  Remove old mat from vehicle. (Use as a template for trimming and assembly.)
2.  Carefully locate and cut a hole for the clutch pedal rod in the new mat, if vehicle
 is so equipped.
3.  Trial fit the mat into the car, trimming as required to achieve the desired fit.
4.  Using the old floor mat as a guide (or the sketch on the back of these
instructions) trim the jute adding to fit.
     •   The horizontal slit allows the mat to fit properly at the joint where the transmission tunnel meets the firewall.
     •   The top and bottom padding setback allows the mat to tuck under the heater and seat respectively.
     •   The side setback allows the mat to sit on top of the sill plates without the padding showing from the sides.
5.  Trial fit the mat with the padding underneath. Trim as required and remove.
6.  Dye the mat appropriately (if required) to meet your vehicle requirements.
7.  Spray adhesive to the back side of the mat and mating surface of the padding.
8.  Place the padding on the back of the mat.
9.  Install the mat in the vehicle, working it into position.
Notes:
     •   Use sharp scissors to cut the padding or trim the mat.
     •   Rubber mat surface may contain casting release residue. Clean using mild soap and water. A chemical cleaning agent may be required prior to application of dye to improve adhesion. Check with your paint supplier.
     •   The adhesive is used to prevent the padding from sliding around under the mat. Application of adhesive to the back of the mat only may be sufficient.
We hope this new mat enhances your restoration and provides years of enjoyment.

On a related subject: Does anyone know of a source for pebble finish (texture) rubber matting that is at least 42" wide. I could only locate it in 36" wide. The reason I am looking for this is that my 1951 Henry J had a trunk mat that was in this material. In order to make a relacement one I need a piece 42" x 48"   Any info would be helpful.

(Note Restoration Specialties has the mnaterial in 36" wide see page 82  http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2009%20Catalog%20ebook/2009%20Catalog%20ebook.pdf)

OK - have another two questions.  On a 53K Manhattan -
Does the sill plate go over the top of the front mat?
How about the rear carpet... does the sill plate go over the top of it??

Both the mat and the rear carpet go on top of the sill plate, not under it.

Is one of these mats close enough for the Willys Aero front?

To answer an earlier question, no the mat is not close enough to fit an Aero. I tried. Wayyy too much trimming and it still didn't look right.

About the last post, I wrote the manufacturing fund manager and asked for an update.
