1953 Kaiser Dragon in Collectible Automobile Magazine
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:39:37 PM »
I met Dennis and Dorothee Ferk at the KFOCI National Meet in New Braunfels, Texas in 1992.  They were a nice couple who loved their 1953 Kaiser Dragon. It is a beautiful car. It is also featured in this months (August 2011) Collectible Automobile Magazine as a photo feature.

I thought I may have been the guy in front of the early Kaiser in the background of the picture of Dennis Ferk, Ferk's dragon, and Randy Rutherford, but I think that is Gil Courtain. I would have been around the corner lining up the next car to get an award.
I worked hard that Friday.

Yes that is Gil Courtain.

It is funny how a car gets attached to an owner's name and tends to stick long after the car is no longer owned by him. That Dragon has had at least 2 owners since the Ferks had it. Dick Bailey owned it for a number of years and won many awards with it and then sold it.

Mr. Baily spent the entire weekend polishing that car at Flagstaff in '05. It's a beauty.

Speaking of cars retaining their owners name, that early Kaiser Gil is standing near is (at least I'm pretty sure it is) Blastaway Brown, John Parker's '48 Special, now owned by Tom Lockley. John owned that car for 25 years or more. It was in the color section of Last Onslaught, so we know he had it since at least the early '70's.
Also of note, I believe that is Lew Retzer's 1952 Aero Wing behind the Ferkmobile. Lew has had that car for at least 25 years or more. In fact, when I think about it, many of us in the Club have owned our cars for a very long time now. Mention any long time club member's name and what car do you think of?

No one mentioned Miss Yvonne Conroy's Allstate which was beside the John Parker Kaiser.
We need to post more old photos so we can continue to play who had the car and where is it now.

I've posted a number of the photos I took at the few KF meets I have been to over the years on Facebook for anyone to check out.  I also have copies that are larger res than facebook offers on my Photobucket account of the 1990 New Orleans meet. The hosts did a great job on that one and we had a lot of fun, as we do at all the meets!
The link is here if you would like to check them out. Remember that there are more pages than just the first one in the album. Better quality photos start on page 2 of the 1990 meet.

One more photo, this one at the national meet in New Orleans, 1990 from my video. (The quality is terrible, sorry).
This might be the Ferk Dragon, but I can't tell.

I also added all my photos of the 1992 National in New Braunfels, TX to the Photobucket account for you to view.  The link is the same as the above posting, the albums are on the right of the screen. Click View Slideshow to see 'em.
