front bumper kaiser frazer special 1947 needed
« on: July 08, 2011, 03:24:52 PM »
It's been a while since I posted, but we are getting along with restoring our kaiser frazer. Only thing is that the front bumper is totally rusted through, and so we are looking to replace it. Is there anyone who has one, and if so, what would it cost to purchase and have it shipped over to us in the Netherlands?

Thanks in advance for any answer!

greetz, Elly Schuurman.

Great news to hear that you're making progress on your restoration. However, it is important to note that Kaiser-Frazer was the name of the corporation and not an automobile. Kaiser-Frazer manufactured two main marques: Frazer, which was the upper end car and Kaiser which was the more common, lesser priced car. This is important because the 1947/48 Kaiser used different bumpers than the 1947/48 Frazer.  If your car is a "Special", which means it would say "Special" down the center of the middle grill section, then it is a Kaiser and you need a Kaiser bumper. If it is a Frazer, it needs the more sculptured Frazer bumper.  Here are some photos of the different cars:
The 1947/48 Frazer -

and the 1947/48 Kaiser -

Notice the difference in bumpers.
Let us know which one you need and I'm sure someone can help.
Best of luck on the completion of your restoration.

According to the parts books (issue date 11/1/46, 6/1/47 with supplement issued 11/1/47) there are differences in the number of bumper guards on 1947 K-100 Kaiser Specials.  The first two books list a total of 4 guards; 2 front, 2 back.  The supplement dated 11/1/47 lists 4 front (L&R inner and L&R outer) with the 1 piece bumper and 2 rear guards as before.  The parts book for 1947 and 1948 models (my copy is revised April 1948) indicates that if the car has the 3 piece bumper (center section, left section, right section) it has two guards front, two rear. The book also notes that if the car has a 1 piece bumper, as noted in the 1947 supplement, the front bumper has the 4 guards, the back only 2.
