exhaust manifold noise
« on: July 17, 2011, 06:54:55 PM »
I have a 54 manhattan, the engine has been overhauled and i have a ticking noise that is still there behind the carb. The engine has been torn down twice to find the tick, no luck > then on the 3dr go at it i saw carbon on the choke tube to the manifold and found the tube in the manifold to be loose and has a hole in it. Some years ago a member had the same problem and replaced the tube. the question is what size tube--and what metal and where to get it.

I used steel brake line and cut/bent it to fit on my 54. I had to run a drill bit down the hole in the manifold to clean out the gunk, but it worked. The size escapes me at the moment...but take yours along to the store and just match it up!
