PPG jobbers CAN get current mix formulas for many of the colors used by Kaiser-Frazer and Willys-Overland/Willys-Motors. Here's how it works:
1. Take the PAINT number off the firewall data plate to the jobber. You can try by the paint color name (especially with pre 1953 model year Willys products) but you will have to mention the model year as there were some variations in the formula between years.
2. The jobber is to contact the PPG COLOR LIBRARY with the information. If they need anything additional for any reason, they will advise the jobber (who in turn will advise you). The library will pull their official master reference sample from the storage vault (temp and humidity controlled) and scan it with a computerized spectrometer. The device "reads" the chip and identifies what currently available mix colors (and amount of paint to use) is required to duplicate the color.
3. DITLZER PPG DOES NOT CHARGE THE JOBBER FOR PROVIDING THE MIX INFORMATION. The activity is a support tool for the jobber to help make a paint sale. However, PPG has advised jobbers not to pass on the formula to customers (you). This is because PPG considers the formula proprietary information and not because the jobber wants to be a snot.
Some colors are available only in lacquers or only in enamels, Also, there are a few exotic colors that may not be available at the present time. While DITZLER/PPG was the main supplier of paint to Kaiser-Frazer (DuPont was a secondary vendor; Rinshed-Masion, Acme Lead, Beckwith-Chandler and Dabney were among the other secondaries for particular colors) it did not do all colors. If you check the original chart for your car by model year you may find the occasional "no mix formula available" notation on the old charts.
