www.scottrodscustom.com Over the last few years, hot rodders have shown an increasing amount of interest in those nose-high, straight-axle gassers and rods made to look like gassers, and as a result, Kaiser’s little Henry J, one of the more popular choices for a gasser, has become in demand.
Yet, strangely enough, while all manner of fiberglass Willys bodies satisfy those gasser dreams, and a few Henry J body parts have been available in fiberglass, no Henry J fiberglass reproduction bodies have been made to meet that demand. Until now, that is: Scott Leber of ScottRods in Monroeville, Ohio, is now marketing a full fiberglass Henry J body, available in just about every state of completion, up to turnkey cars.
“The number of steel-bodied Henry Js available for turning into race cars or street rods is running out,†Leber said. “When we started on this project, we did a search and found less than 10,000 left.†That’s out of the nearly 125,000 that Kaiser built.
Leber said he can build the bodies with or without radiused wheelwells, a 15 percent engine setback and rear tubs. Prices range from $5,500 for just the body, up to $21,000 for a full body on top of a rolling chassis.
