Henry J radiator
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:42:47 PM »
Getting the 52 J running and the radiator is leaking.
Local radiator shops wants $450 for new core. They wont patch the radiator, and I wont spend $450 on a radiator.
Any sorce for a reasonable priced radiator?

Found U.S. Radiator has a new one for $336.  :(
Anyone find another model radiator that will bolt it like a Jeep or Willis car ?

I was told a 55- 57 Chevy V8 rad would work, but have not tried my spare 57 rad, Henry.

55-7 Chevs used a core that is the same as 51-5K but not HJ. The inlet and outlet on the 55-7 unit is smaller than that used by KF so there is no direct swap. Been there...tried that.

I can't believe a radiator shop wouldn't fix that radiator. I've had several done recently and never paid more than $100 for the job. Edgar Kaiser's car had a radiator out of a CJ-5 in it when we got it. It bolts right in but upper water water outlet is in the center so you have to remove that cross bar behind the radiator. The other problem is, while that radiator bolts right in, it's about an inch and three quarters shorter and half an inch thinner. The car ran noticeably warmer so we found a correct HJ radiator and installed it. It's fine now. I saw some after-market ones on ebay recently and I can't remember who  but someone on here got one and commented they were no good.

I know. I was expecting about 100 bucks to rod out the radiator, $450 kinda shocked me.

Got the one that US radiator makes comming from Cool Craft.
Tax and shipping $371.86 for a new radiator. Still cheaper than my local deal of $450 plus tax for a recore of my old unit.
