gas shocks for my 53 Dragon
« on: March 26, 2009, 10:53:45 PM »
Anybody know what modern gas shocks will fit a 53 Dragon? I can do some cross referencing if someone can tell me what other cars use the same front shocks. Id like to use a premium gas shock if possible. Also I need the lower attaching brackets that bolt to the control arms. Both of mine are broken beyond repair.

Can anyone post the extended and compressed length of the shocks and I will do the research and post the results. I believe the shocks that were on my car are too long and is the cause of the lower mounts being broken. Somebody likely has an old pair sitting on a shelf they can measure.

Chris, I put Monroe Sensa Trac's (#5751) on my 54 Kaiser and they fit and seem to work fine.  I got them at an Advance Auto Parts Store (their part #1970779).  Check with Larry Barker on the lower mounts.  He's on Peoria, AZ and is listed in the club directory.  Hope this helps...Mike

PS, Monroe may make a "better" model in the same size, I know they did on the rear shocks, but I bought their "standard" model.  I recall they were about twice as expensive.

Thanks Mike, I came up with the same number and cross referenced it to Edelbrocks 53 to 62 corvette front shocks. Edelbrocks website has these on sale for 70 plus % off. I just ordered a pair for my Hudson Hornet $81.00 delivered to my door a great deal! I now realize that Kaisers use the same shocks as Hudson stepdown models front and rear. I am going to use KYB mono tube gas shocks on the rear.

Gabriel 81318 and 82026 are the direct replacement numbers for gas shocks 47-55 Kaiser and Frazer full size cars.
