HOOD CABLE

Need to replace the hood cable on my 1955  I have found a cable for a 1951 will they interchange?

No, they do not. 51-3 cars used part number 212464 and the 54-5 cars used 215966.

Interestingly, the preliminary parts list for the 51 models shows the part number as 208559. I wonder what changed between May of 1950 and June of '51 when the later number was used.

54 Early Specials used part number 215889.

That is what I was afraid of plenty of older cables but the 55 cables hard to find.

If your housing is free of kinks, replace the inside cable with a new one. You can soak the old housing in some CLR cleaner and rinse with clear water. Allow it to air dry then use an aerosol graphite spray with the tube on the can, fill the cable housing with the graphite allow to dry then roll the cable a few time then insert the new cable into the housing and cut to the length you need and crimp the ends.  Rudy Phillips might have what you need and can save you a bunch of time.
