Made in Long Beach CA.
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:45:42 AM »
Hello all
Has anyone kept track of the cars made in the long beach plant ? I am in the process of buying a 51 deluxe 2 door that has spent its whole life with in 50 miles of its build and lives now. I would like to see other ca. cars and hear of others that own them.

Thanks

There is a link on this website to a registry that a club member maintains. You can look up cars by year and model and in that list cars assembled in locations other than Willow Run or Toledo are noted. I'm sure more cars exist than are noted...work continues to get members to send in the car's information.

Here's a link -> http://www.eskimo.com/~hhagen/reg/reg.htm

As you probably already know, Long Beach CA assembled cars have an "A" on their door post serial number tags (example, K512-A002456) but run the same serial number sequence as cars from Willow Run.  Also, Long Beach cars have a 3 digit paint number that should translate to a lacquer paint rather than enamel (if original factory paintwork) because the plant did not have the high-temp baked enamel paint lines (that according to articles in AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES magazine).

Check out the info on Long Beach operations in KFOCI Handbook Version 4.0.

I did my 53 HJ quite a while ago but it does not show up in the registry. I just sent in the info for my 51 HJ. Is the registry updated? Henry

Yes, the registry is updated...cars I've reported have appeared on the site. If you sent something in a while ago and it has not appeared, send it again.

Got an email from Harold yesterday, it seems I forgot some pertinent info on my two forms. He said the updates will be done. Henry
