fuel leak

I have a slight fuel leak at one of my pump fittings.  I used a high-temperature thread sealant from autozone, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick.  Anyone have any ideas about the best thing to use for fuel lines?  It's not a fast leak at all, but after driving, it gets a little damp from gas on the bottom of the fuel pump.

Rather than replace a expensive fuel line, an old trick was to wrap once or twice around the male threads
a piece of wax coated string, and then thread the fitting and tighten. This sealed as good as teflon and lasted for years. Gas did not seem to affect it at all. I still have my roll of string after 25 years.

And also, a bit of wax coming adrift would be much less harmful to carb and engine than Teflon doing the same, IMO.

Yes, I was told by the people who rebuilt my pump (Then and Now Austomotive) not to use teflon.  They said I could use a "liquid teflon" and I didn't know if they were referring to this product I got at Autozone, or if there was something different.  What about string?  It seems like little pieces could maybe go through the pump and carb.

liquid teflon is what you want

Wax coated string is much more shred resistant than teflon tape and the wax is melted into the string, so I don't think any wax will get into the line.

Would waxed dental floss work, do you think? Just wondering....

Waxed string is quite a bit thicker than waxed dental floss. I would think any large hardware store should carry it.
