52 Virginian spare tire lock
« on: July 03, 2013, 12:11:25 AM »
Hi all, recently bought a portland built 52 Kaiser Virginian Deluxe coupe that has a complete continental kit on it including the lock on the wheel . Would anyone recognize if this lock is correct ?   If it is then i will spend the money to have it picked and a key made.

It's an aftermarket lock of slightly later vintage. The giveaway is the key design with cuts on both sides of the key...a feature first used and made common on vending machines of the mid to late 50s.

Somewhere around here I have an NOS Willys unit that was used on the Jeepsters and its key has a single cut.

That lock has a code number on it.  A locksmith might be able to cut a key from this code provided he can tell what brand it is and his code books go back far enough and he has a blank for it and, and, etc.

I don't know if the '52 Virginian is the same as the lock used on the Henry J kits but that one is an XK166 which was used on Jeeps  or Willys P/N 8997143

As Custom pointed out, it's the one that's on ebay right now -

The ad even lists the Willys part number in the description.
1953 Henry J Corsair Deluxe
Edgar Kaiser's custom 1951 Henry J
1951 Kaiser Special
1952 Allstate Deluxe
