New Speedo Installed
« on: September 02, 2013, 01:50:11 AM »
Nice day in my garage working on the 52 HJ.  Thought I would show you all what I did.

When I bought my 52, it came with lots of parts from at least two HJ's.  car has had a broken speedo since I have had it since March.  I took the speedometer out of the car, and using other two Speedos, I took best of all the parts and cleaned up and restored one.  I was lucky in that 1 had a beautiful immaculate faceplate with 80k miles.  I rolled back to 0 the best of the Speedos and put it all together with new glass because old ones were scratched here and there.
Very proud of myself for how it looks.  If you have never seen a new looking speedo, with only 1/10 of a mile, here it is.  Lol
Next project is I have now removed shifter and steering column for repainting.  Alot work, but restoration is coming along great!

I probably should buy the decal from manufacturing fund for HJ speedo break in speeds.  Lol

Looks great!  I did my bezel last year. I had a really nice one that did not even need to be plated
Before:

During:

And after:

You're right Dave, it makes a difference and looks great. And by the way, the mileage reading in that first shot is real and actual! When I saw it was about to turn over to that, pulled off to the side a drew my cellphone camera for a picture.

Not hard, but can be.  Until I took it out, I thought I could just remove bezel.  Bezel actually hold and clamps whole thing in place.   My 7 year old was handy to have little hands to get the nuts back on.  Make sure you disconnect battery, lotta wires under there.
