Got me a Traveler
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:31:38 PM »
New here and just picked up my first Kaiser,a 49 Traveler.
The car is pretty complete and haven't found any cancer yet,car is pretty much untouched other than some work to the right front fender. The car also came with a spare super sonic engine and newly chromed front and rear bumpers.
The engine in the car looks to be the original and after pulling the plugs and adding a little marvels in each cylinder the engine turned over by hand,so I think I should be able to get it to fire. The bad part is someone cut the original intake with what appears to be a hacksaw about a 1/4" into the casting. The goodthing is the other engine has a 2bbl intake I can use.

The cut you're seeing into the casting was done at the factory, probably to reduce stress. I don't see a picture of the cut on your manifold but my guess is it's about an inch ahead of where the carb mounts.

I've attached a picture of my 47 with the same cut. My other 47 has the same.

Congratulations on the Traveler. I recently bought a 49 Kaiser Special and am new at this too. I've already replaced the glass and windshield gaskets so if you need some tips on where to get stuff let me know and I'll tell you what I did. I have a parts car so if you need anything let me know and I'll see if I can help out. Good luck on the car!

Here's a pic of mine before I started on it.

1964 Ford Custom (Galaxie)

Cool thanks.
I'm going to try and get it fired up first and see how that goes
Then I'm going to do the brakes, glass and I already have a new wiring harness.
After that I will cruise it as I work on it.
I think I'm going to find some other front coils and drop it a little I have 2" blocks already for
the back. It will take a little time as I work out of town all week.
