clutch shudder

My '51 Kaiser just started to shudder when the clutch is first engaged in low gear. I have heard
that this is ofter due to oil on the clutch disc. Is the front seal on the transmission the likely
cause of this? I am guessing here as the car runs normal otherwise. The engine does not move
when I rev it, so the motor mounts should be ok? Any suggestions besides tearing everything
apart which I hate to do since the car has OD and is a big job ?

Yes, it's probably due to oil on the disc. I have the same thing happening on my 50K and I've learned to live with it.

In the old days we used to gently drive the car to a telephone pole and slowly let the clutch out and burn in the clutch by letting it slip and get warm.  That trick often helped to eliminate clutch chatter.  Don't over do it!

joefrazer: So you have driven your 50K with this shudder and no other adverse effects ? Has
this been going on for while? I hope to avoid the oil causing slippage over time and leaving
me stranded. If you have no other adverse problems, I can live with it too.
