Think the ticking noise from my newly rebuilt engine is from a poorly adjusted tappet. Can I drive the engine with this noise and not damage it

Sure plan on a fix but my mechanic is working on tractors and combines and want to drive it until he can get it adjusted just don,t want to harm the engine
