Kaiser Frazer Neon clock
« on: August 19, 2017, 04:10:32 PM »
Have a couple of questions for this knowledgeable group. I have managed to find a few posters, and many of the Kaiser tin product line (still looking for more!). I have come across an old Kaiser neon clock which I have attached the picture.

1. how rare is it?
2. A guess on value (it is in near perfect working condition).
3. If the deal does not go through does anyone have this for sale?

thanks much.

No idea on the value but I've learned to double and triple check...especially when the condition seems too good to be true...to see if it's actually old or rather a newer item.

The clocks were offered to Kaiser-Frazer dealers by Reliance Advertising Co. in Chicago for $29.95 each plus shipping and they weigh 20 pounds.  They were expensive at the time and not all dealer had one.  They are relatively scarce to find now and I have seen them advertised for $1,000 so if you can find one at around half of that I would get it.  I have seen some advertised over the years but never at a price that I could afford.  The illustration that you provided is the same as the illustration in the  K-F Dealers Sales Aid Catalog.

Thanks for the info, it is definitely the real deal that much I am sure of but am pretty sure is will be north of 1k. I had no idea about this type of thing so I am happy for the information and appreciate it. Wish my Kaiser dealer father in law would  have picked this up for $29.95!!

If anyone has one let me know!

In looking through a catalog of available Kaiser-Frazer signs I found an illustration of a deluxe version of the clock for outside use that was 24 inches in diameter instead of 17 inches for the standard clock and it also has neon Kaiser and Frazer lettering above and below the clock.  I wonder if any of those survived?

I like that clock.  I would never pay $1000 plus for petrolania or whatever they refer to this stuff as.  VERY nostalgic and would love to have...but it all seems so high.

I would not mind having a reproduction.  I know many "clocks" and signs are reproduced and affordable.  What I am wondering is, can someone purchase a high quality metal framed, glass covered, neon base clock and make the letters and add the decals to get a look of these for - say $150?

I could make the letters or have them made, the logos?  Maybe put real off the car emblems in there.  Just a thought.  My wife has a machine that cuts the numbers, called a Cricket, but has not used it in years.
No old cars owned.

There have been some clocks offered on eBay over the years  as well as signs and they are usually 12 inches in diameter which is too small for authenticity.  What makes the originals so valuable is the design and the Kaiser Frazer  logos.  Old clocks with no advertising on them are available for a reasonable cost and you could certainly paint K-F logos on them and have a nice looking clock without breaking the bank.
