1953 Kaiser horn button rattle
« on: August 28, 2013, 10:52:51 PM »
Does anyone know the trick to solve this problem?   When I go over the bumps in the road I have to hold the horn button to keep it from rattling loudly.   thanks,  Jim

Has the rubber doughnut under the medallion deteriorated?  If so, you want to replace it.  The club sells one called a Sponge Rubber Horn Ring for $18.00 via the manufacturing fund.  Just twist off the medallion in the center of the steering wheel (not exactly easy: I used rubber gloves once and also the flat rubber jar opener things you can get at grocery stores and a lot of force and patience to get mine off), carefully pull the old stuff out and clean the old rubber sponge ring out of the way, then clean the brass parts to ensure proper electrical connections, put it back together, and it should work fine.  Good luck!

I struggled several times to get the button off. Last time I recruited wife to help- if one person pushes down and the other mans the jar opener it comes off fairly easily. Hard for one person to both push and rotate adequately.

I think I lubed it up a bit for the next time I have to remove it.

The rubber donuts are available from the club manufacturing fund. A list of everything available is here -> http://kfclub.com/manufacturing-fund/

Just be careful, I bought one of those donuts and it tasted terrible! Dunked it in milk, coffee... bad taste.

Next time put some chocolate frosting on it. That'll make anything taste good ::)
