Looking for a Nice Dragon
« on: March 12, 2014, 09:03:25 AM »
Hello, Group,

For some time I have been looking for a nice '53 Dragon.  If any members know of a nice original or restored example for sale, please email me:  rexcrews@bellsouth.net  Thanks a lot!  Rex Crews

There are more than 144 left;  a number of them are not listed in the registry or are owned by club members.

I think Gerald Bonham was putting together a registry on the Dragons.  It would be interesting to get a number on the Dragons left.  There were some in the original registry that were junked or parts cars.  I would be surprised if there were more then 144 restored ones left.  Seems like I never see one at auction.

1953 Dragon
1951 Dragon
1951 Business Coupe
1951 Kaiser Deluxe

Outside of Kaiser-Darrin sports cars, how often do you see ANY K-F product at an auction.  These cars often trade hands between club members or through FOR SALE ads in KFOCI MONTHLY BULLETIN.  At 144 cars (I am presuming that all are running vehicles, some needing one degree or another of restoration/upgrade) you are looking at a survival rate of 11.2764%.  Normal survival percentage for a 1953 anything these days is less than 1% of its production (some are even less...how about 1953 Nash?).

1279 made I am thinking entirely off hand. If I am wrong, I can't be by far. Anyway, 144 would be all, not just restored or driving, and it is a fluid number. Registry's become obsolete pretty quickly.

I would say a few are in regional museums and collections which have no allegiance to a club. Guesstimate 20-25, that's less then one per state.  A few more in salvage yards with the Dragon and gold removed, look like Manhattans.

So, 200 would be a fair guess of the total number left. Hopefully more.
No old cars owned.

I am at three and counting now  :) :). Two of mine were not on the registry but now are. I know of one other in town not on the registry. If your looking for a fully restored quality 25-50 might be a guess of the total number. I have a number of pretty cool old muscle cars and I have to say the Dragon is my best looking car (not worth a hill of beans but pretty.....kind of like my first girl friend  :o
