Oil Pump Gear Materials
« on: February 03, 2014, 07:20:36 AM »
Good morning everyone. This is most likely a simple question, but I have a 1951 Kaiser and I see in the manual that the oil pump gears can be cast iron or steel in 1951. Did they standardize on one or the other after 1951 and if yes, which material did they select?

Thanks.

I checked my 1953K shop manual supplement as well as my Service Bulletin binder and can find no reference to the company sticking to one type of oil pump gear. The 1951 shop manual does state to use a steel gear with a steel oil pump shaft and a cast gear with a cast shaft...but nothing more.

In fact, the 1954K parts book lists both as being in service and used in that year engine.
