Darrin on-line
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:11:00 PM »
I stopped off at Beverly Hills Car Club to look at the Darrin #200.   They want $85,000 for it and the bidding went to $59,000 but did not make the minimum bid.

Now that I have owned a Darrin for a few years and I am a licensed mechanic, I can see many things I would not have noticed, had I not owned one.

From what I saw, it appears they painted the car and  has a few newly chromed parts.   I heard it run and it seems to run ok but I don't know how it drives.   The passenger door had no rails for the door to slide on, otherwise the interior looked used but ok.    I thought only the first 50 had the cross hatch pattern for the seats.  It needed a new windshield.   With what they are selling for at auctions lately, I think it is quite overpriced at 85k.   It should have been sold for the 59k, which I also thought was a bit high.   It still needs a lot of work.

Here is the link.

The "X" stitch upholstery was used with up to and including car #50. At #51, the switch was made to the other style with the rolled/sewn pleats. The data tag shows the car as body #31 which would put it one after the car I recently sold and it had the "X" stitched seats. Perhaps the body was not used right away and later serialed, or someone over the years lost the original plate and swapped in #200.
