Thermostat retainer

Does anyone know if the thermostat retainer is the same for the 4 and the 6 cylinder?

They are not. The 4 cylinder car uses p/n 208946 and the six uses 208945.

I think you can get the one for the four cylinder at Walcks 4WD.  The one for the six cylinder was also used in the '37-'54 pontiac 6 & 8 GM Part number 500171  or Willys 637018. I don't know of a supplier but those numbers may help you find one on ebay.
