Need help with data plate ID on 1947 frazer Manhattan
« on: December 13, 2014, 06:37:08 PM »
I ran the numbers on my 47 Frazer Manhattan and understand it all but the body # is 5 which I think I understand as Hatchback but I didn't think they had hatchbacks in 1947. I also thought they just made sedans in 1947
Any Help?
Here's my numbers:

Serial # F 47C 1027058
Model 472
Body 5 = ? (I saw where 5 meant hatchback?)  1= 4 doors    4= 2 doors
paint 541 = Gunmetal over claypipe gray
trim 342
TR 1 = manual 3 speed
HR 1= heater core
RA= rear axle
DR 1= USA delivery
Scedule 249
Item 499
Body #27950

KFOCI HANDBOOK (current release Version 5.0 on CD) contains a wealth of information about 1947 Frazer Manhattans:

1.  In the 1947 KAISER-FRAZER AUTOMOBILES section you will find an overview on the 1947 F47c5 Frazer Manhattan.  The designation stood for Frazer (F) 1947 (47) Manhattan (c) 4-door sedan (in 1947 Kaiser-Frazer & Graham-Paige used the number 5 to identify 4-door sedans, the only body type they built that model year.  Using the number 5 to identify a hatchback did not start until the 1949 model year.

2.  The overview noted above also includes translations for paint and trim code numbers into colors, interior fabrics and some detailing, etc.

3.  In the GENERAL INFORMATION section of the Handbook, you will find an item on reading the firewall body tags of Kaiser-Frazer  products.  It "translates" code numbers for various items including Rear Axle ratios, transmission type put in at the factory (it will show that your "1" actually means overdrive transmission rather than the straight 3-speed manual you list above).

I hope this is helpful.
