heater motor on 12 volt?

hey guys can you run the heater motor on 12 volts or will it burn up,,,,what would I need to fix this....

It'll run on 12v...just twice as fast. Make sure your wiring isn't frayed and your connections are good.

It will be fine, but faster.  Watch  for wires getting too hot.  If any wiring is frayed, fix it.

The problem you will have is the armature and internal components will get hot from the extra voltage.  You need to make sure the bearings, armature shaft and other electric motor components that require lubrication are properly taken care of.

can you hook up something like a potentiometer to to give the motor a variable speed,just thinking.

Use a rheostat switch like this one and keep it on the lowest speed. You'll drop the excess voltage on the rheostat and not the motor. If you have a meter, hook it up across the switch and adjust for the closest you can get 6.2-6.3 volts.

In one of my J s the  fuel level gauge was way off .I put a rheostat between the instrument voltage regulator and the gauge. Filled the tank and adjusted the needle to the position I wanted.

Another option is to install a votlage reducer on the blower motor.  This is a safe way to solve your problem.  Look on ebay under 12 volt to 6 volt voltage reducer in "car parts".  Shouldn't cost more than 10 to 15 dollars.
