starting straight axle install

I ran a string front to back on center and also marked the position of the front axle. I clamped one spring in place to get an idea of where the spring will sit. The plumb bob is about 1/2" behind the axle center line as the center should move about that when the weight is on.

You do realize that the with the spring shackles in the front, the axle will move forward when you compress the spring like going over a bump?

Yes, some cars have the swing to the front and some have it to the back. Most HJ's and others I have looked at are fixed at the rear.

Looks like you're using a round tube axle. Are you mounting the springs over or under the axle? How much caster are you going to run? How many leaves in each spring? What are you using for a steering box and linkage? Just curious. I like the Henry J, Willys , gasser stance, but not comfortable on the street.

Yes a round axle kit from Speedway. I don't want the front end too high so will be starting with the axle on top of the spring. A Vega steering box with cross steering. The number of springs is yet to be determined. 8* of caster to start.

Sounds like a great setup. Should go straight as an arrow with 8 degrees of positive caster.
