'51 frazer engine

Just opened up the engine from my '51 Frazer and am confused. The rear main bearing insert doesn't have the side flanges to control c/s end play like other KF engines I have dealt with. Instead there are some bass rings and steel shims behind the front pulley. Nothind like that in the '51 shop manual. Anyone know what I have?

Sounds like thrust washers and shims from an earlier engine. My 47K had them in place.

Page 34 of the 1947-48 shop manual details their installation.

Thanks. I don't have a 47-48 manual. Kaiser-Willys auto supply doesn't have those bearings either so guess I'll look for a rebuildable,later engine. Any idears?

You should check your 1951 Frazer Parts Book (yellow & black cover) for part numbers; there are some K-F engines that are proper matches for 1951 engines.  Also, as I recall from the Tom Rankine era, a number of people even used Massey-Ferguson tractor engine parts because while not the exact factory spec item, they fit and worked ok.
