New to Forum with a couple of 49 Travelers
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:21:36 PM »
Hello Everyone.

I am new to the forum and have just purchased a couple of 49 Travelers.  One is nice with no rust (needs glass) and the other is kind of rough, but in my opinion, worthy of being saved. They are very similarly optioned. One was Horizon Blue and the other Cardinal. The bad one has the original Florida title. These are such cool cars.

Regards,
David

I agree these are very cool cars. Congrats on your purchase.  Here is a link to  a group of photos taken at the 2008 Salem KFOCI National of K-F Utility Vehicles.

Just Curious?  Did either of these Travelers come with a Tailgate bridge as shown in the image below??

I am not sure if that bridge section is present..I will have to check but don't remember seeing it. To add pictures to a post do I need to have them hosted somewhere? Thanks for your responses.

Hi,

1949-50 Kaiser hatchbacks should have the "bridge" between tailgate and trunk floor.  It appears in the rear deck illustration in the 1949 parts book but says the metal piece is "not serviced" and does not have a p/n.  Literature and factory photos show it in Travelers and Vagabonds.

Could you provide the length measurement and a photo?  I made 6 or 7 of them last winter and had a difficult decision on the length measurement.  Hard to find a pattern ... pretty rare I think.  THANKS

Here's a picture (next post) of the bad one. I know. It looks like a mess. But it's actually solid and runs. I know it's ambitious ( and will be expensive) but  I think it's worth saving. The bumpers and chrome are inside it. and the frame is good. This is the one that was originally "cardinal red" which is maroon.

It was evidently last on the road in 1970.
