Trunk Hinges
« on: November 25, 2009, 10:58:03 PM »
Are the 47-48 hinges different from the 49-50?
If I have this right, the 47-48 uses braces on the sides of the trunk lid, where the 49-50 has springs...yes??

Thanks, Will in Whittier

The early 47s had telescopic supports but somewhere mid-year, KF switched to spring loaded hinges. I think the hinges differ between the later 47s/48s and the 49/50 version.

According to KF parts manuals the hinges are same for 47-49--left 202303 and right 202302. The cars with prop evidently had a 5 coil spring and later cars including all 49 had 6 coil spirngs. The springs are serviced separately.

I stand corrected. I visited with a friend today who has a 47 Graham Paige Frazer and there are notelescopic supports for the trunk lid. The same is true of his early 47 Kaiser. I then checked the parts book and as Ben stated, the difference in trunk hinges from 47/8 to 49/50 is limited to the springs used.
