Hood hinges - caveat emptor
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:14:48 AM »
The hinges themselves are original HJ parts but those springs that are on them are not.  I stopped correcting ebay sellers years ago but if anyone is looking for hood springs, the ones 51HJ has/had for sale are correct but not these.  The springs on these hinges don't even look strong enough to do the job.

I used to make springs for a living, the Springs on e-bay have been stretched if you need a new spring for your HJ and want a stronger one find one with the same wire size but get with  about 1/4" smaller O.D and the same amount of coils. smaller O.D makes it stronger, less coils makes it stronger. Buy a new spring, a 50+ year old spring will be kinda brittle.
