back seat
« on: October 29, 2015, 09:12:42 PM »
Does an HJ with both the fold down rear seat and opening trunk have a parcel tray? Any pic's would help. Would the rear seat back be the same. I have both a trunk-less and a trunk model and may combine pieces from each to make one good body. Thanks

None of the HJs with a fold down rear seat originally had a package shelf cover. I've seen some restorers add them but it's pretty easy to tell they were not original.

My thought is to use the 53 body with trunk and package tray and install the fold down seat etc out of the 51. So my question is will the seat fit the space in the 53 as is or am I on my own on this?

The folding seat will fit but you have to make modifications. Add the hardware to latch the seat back in its upright position. There was a thread on here showing a car where this had been done. See this one-

I have a copy of correspondence between factory and a dealer in TX about doing what you want to do.  They did NOT recommend the dealer try it because of the way the body is constructed between the two types.  Also, Fid is correct that there is no package shelf on the cars with both deck lid and fold down seat back.

Thanks for the link to the rear seat post. I don't see the mod's that difficult  so when I've got the inner/ outer rockers and front floor done I will tackle the rear seat.
