What oil to use?

In the manual it says to use 10w oil ,but considering my engine hasn't been rebuilt and has a little over 101,000 miles, should I use a thicker oil now in fall/winter due to wear when I try to start it for the first time in years, or use 10w  ?

I've heard of other non rebuilt kaiser owners using 30w ,but they said they don't drive in winter.What about using 10w-30?

Is Shell Rotella T Triple Protection 10W-30 Heavy Duty Motor Oil good to use?Does it have enough zinc?Does it contain a detergent?

Since your goal is tyo get the engine to run so you assess its condition, I would use 30W oil. Quaker State oils have more zinc in than most others.

Jim is correct on the Quaker State and the 30W unless you are in a cold winter climate area (20W or 20 weight will work for your purpose).  Shell's Rotella Oil for gasoline engines is another good choice according to the lubrication people at Ford (2010 information).
