Engine re-build kits

I'm considering a Kanter engine kit for my 226 SuperSonic.
Any comments for or against going this way?
Anyone use one of these kits?

You might want to check out egge. I used them for the rebuild of my 161L Head in my henry J. They have kits for the 226.

Check with our webmaster (this site), Chris Leucht.  He works at Kanter.  Very friendly young guy and he'd be a great "inside" source.  I think he'll be impartial.

I used a Kanter kit on my 51 Kaiser rebuild. Everything fit perfectly. Just maje sure you get with your machine shop first before you order the kit to see if you will need over/under sized bearings and pistons. Most of thier other parts are garantted for as long as you own the car. I have never had any problems with the quality, serviceability, or workmanship of any of thier products.

While Kanter has good stuff, their prices are on average 25 to 40 percent higher than others selling the same item. When I rebuilt the engine in my Traveler, they wanted around $1000 for everything I needed. After sourcing the parts out at local parts stores, I was able to buy the exact same parts for just a tad over $600. Yes, Kanter is one-stop shopping, but you will pay for that convenience!

Our machine shop used Egge parts and they fit fine and work well.  I really don't know about cost, the machine shop tells me they sourced from what they usually used in other customer cars (no Kaisers).  From asking around at the costs of a rebuild like mine, I paid about what is expected, some $4500.  That is up quite a bit from just a few years ago, I think.

The shop that did my Henry J 161L - Head suggest that I not got to Kanter. They indicated that they ahve had some spotty quality issues with some of their items.  My shop does quite a few Flat Heads of all makes and years and I listen to what they said and went with egge.
