It's a good thing I'm not afraid to look like an idiot.  When I got the hood open,I expected to find a transmission dip stick and fill tube.  Is there a secret portal that I'm just not seeing?  Again, thank you for your help.

The transmission filler is under the floor mat. Pull it back on the passenger side and on the trans hump, you'll see a square access plate. Remove the plate and you'll see the dip stick. Check the fluid level with the car level and running and the transmission in neutral.

If the car has not run for some time or you don't know when it was changed last, you probably should have the fluid changed.  The ATF type used is Type A, and matches Armour Research Foundation AQ-ATF standard ( per K-F Service Bulletin 264)

Major issue was a transmission leak and I am wary about running it without knowing the fluid level. I wonder how many years I'd have been looking for that dip stick if you hadn't been there and willing to help.  Thank you, gentlemen!

If you had the factory service manual for Hydra-Matic (covers 1951-52 model year cars; separate supplement with 1953 model year updates) this would have been listed.

If you remove the front carpet, you might as well check the brake fluid. You remove a plate in the floor in front of the gas pedal
and you will see the cap on top of the Master Cylinder. Be careful not to get dirt in the fluid, so wipe off the cap first. This was a
once a year ritual on my dad's '53. The carpet does not have to be totally removed to do this. Just roll it up towards the firewall
enough to expose the floor plate for the brake access and the transmission hump plate for the transmission fluid.
