Seems like a good buy.
« on: November 06, 2015, 06:48:43 PM »
It appears someone got a good deal. Yes it's a 4 cyl without OD and  yes it needs a lot of TLC, but at that price I don't see how a person could loose.

I am the person that bought it and did not think it would sell for that price. Now I have to make a trip to Colorado to pick it up, just 800 miles from my home. Have to admit it was an impulse buy. Figured someone else would out bid me in the last 2 hours.

Wow, it's almost worth the purchase price to see the seller's other cars when you pick it up. Are those three Darrins in the background? Also what looks like a red King Midget parked at the garage door, and one of the Fascination cars (the 'egg' shaped car with all the glass).

That Henry J looks like a screaming deal!

I know the seller and yes, he has a quite a collection. The Fascination runs and drives and if memory serves he has at least one more - although the pictured car is the best of the lot. The HJ was definitely a good buy...I've seen it in person and at the time he was in no hurry to sell it. A friend did buy another HJ from him that is in similar condition, plus a couple of easily repairable bullet holes, that ran with a new battery and fluids.

Quadromaniac, you got the big deal of the day!

This one is going back stock, just like the other cars we have. 52 henry J, 53 Allstate, and 54 Kaiser Special. I not ready to chop one up for a V8 yet.

I'm glad you got it Quadromaniac! If you can do this one up as nice as you did your Allstate and your '52 we will all enjoy having another original Corsair (without a trunk lid) back on the road.  As mentioned in other posts, Corsairs without trunk lids are a bit unusual but not extremely rare. This one with your '52 will make a nice pair... and with your Allstate they will all make a nice trio!  Way to go.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. We all know how much work goes into making one of these cars roadworthy again. I spoke with the owners this morning, made my deposit and it looks like the trip will start at the end of next week as long as the weather permits.

For the most part the Henry J is in pretty good shape. We tried turning the motor over today using Marvel Mystery oil that I put in 2 days ago, and a big socket on the crankshaft nut. It is totally stuck. This one is going to sit for a while  as we regroup on this project. At least I got all the lights working, and only 1 tire has gone flat since taking it off the trailer.

I sold a Darrin and two Glasspars to a gentleman in Colorado many years ago.  I wonder if it is the same man?  He was collecting Darrin's and had several at that time.  Probably about twenty five years ago.

Could be, he told me that he had several Darrins once upon a time. I think that he said around 20 or so.
